[/fusion_title][fusion_text] Η υπερκατανάλωση αλατιού έχει συνδεθεί με την εμφάνιση πολλών ασθενειών όπως η υπέρταση και η καρδιοπάθεια ενώ έχει αποδειχθεί ότι το αλάτι μπορεί  να επηρεάσει την λειτουργία του εγκεφάλου και των νεφρών και να προκαλέσει κατακράτηση. Τώρα, μια νέα γερμανική έρευνα διαπίστωσε ότι το αλάτι μπορεί, επίσης, να εξασθενήσει την άμυνα του ανοσοποιητικού συστήματος και την ικανότητά του να καταπολεμά τους παθογόνους μικροοργανισμούς, με συνέπεια ο οργανισμός να είναι αδύναμος και να είναι πιο εύκολο να προσβληθεί από μία λοίμωξη. Η εν λόγω μελέτη είναι πιο επίκαιρη από ποτέ εν μέσω της πανδημίας της κορονοϊού, καθώς  λόγω της έλλειψης της κατάλληλης θεραπείας, το κλειδί για την προστασία των ανθρώπων από τον ιό είναι η ανθεκτικότητα του ανοσοποιητικού τους συστήματος.

Η μελέτη

Αρχικά, οι ερευνητές, με επικεφαλής τον καθηγητή Κρίστιαν Κουρτς του Ινστιτούτου Πειραματικής Ανοσολογίας του Πανεπιστημιακού Νοσοκομείου της Βόννης  μελέτησαν  τρωκτικά που είχαν κάνει διατροφή πλούσια σε αλάτι και διαπίστωσαν ότι είχαν μικρότερη ικανότητα να καταπολεμούν λοιμώξεις των νεφρών από ορισμένα βακτήρια. Στη συνέχεια οι επιστήμονες μελέτησαν δέκα υγιείς ανθρώπους από 20 έως 50 ετών, οι οποίοι κατανάλωναν επιπλέον έξι γραμμάρια αλάτι τη μέρα, εκτός από τη συνήθη ποσότητα αλατιού . Μετά από μια εβδομάδα, διαπιστώθηκε ότι -όπως και στα πειραματόζωα- το ανοσοποιητικό σύστημα τους είχε μικρότερη ικανότητα καταπολέμησης βακτηρίων. Αξίζει να αναφερθεί πως ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας (ΠΟΥ) συνιστά την κατανάλωση πέντε γραμμαρίων αλατιού, το οποίο αντιστοιχεί σε  περίπου ένα κουταλάκι. Σε αυτό, μάλιστα, περιλαμβάνεται και το αλάτι που περιέχουν τα έτοιμα τρόφιμα.
