[/fusion_title][fusion_text] Τα άτομα που ανήκουν στην λεγόμενη «τρίτη ηλικία», που έχουν, δηλαδή, συμπληρώσει 60 χρόνια ζωής  είτε περνούν το χρόνο τους σε ακινησία, καθώς δεν κάνουν κανένα είδος φυσικής δραστηριότητας, είτε περιορίζονται στο απλό περπάτημα. Συνήθως οι ηλικιωμένοι δεν αναζητούν ένα διαφορετικό τρόπο εκγύμνασης του σώματός τους γιατί θεωρούν ότι δεν είναι για αυτούς ή ότι δεν θα μπορέσουν να ανταπεξέλθουν στις απαιτήσεις. Όμως, το pilates είναι σίγουρα ένα είδος γυμναστικής που θα λέγαμε πως ταιριάζει «γάντι» στα άτομα άνω των 60 ετών. Οι  λόγοι είναι αρκετοί και έχουν να κάνουν κυρίως με την βελτίωση της υγείας και της ποιότητας ζωής τους

Τα οφέλη του pilates για τους ηλικιωμένους

-Είναι άσκηση χαμηλής έντασης οπότε είναι απόλυτα ασφαλής και δεν προκαλεί τραυματισμούς -Δεν επιβαρύνει τις αρθρώσεις -Κάνει καλό στα προβλήματα που προκύπτουν λόγω ηλικίας στις αρθρώσεις όπως οστεοπόρωση, οστεορθρίτιδα κ.α. -Προωθεί την καλή κυκλοφορία του αίματος -Κάνει καλό στο αναπνευστικό σύστημα -Ενδυναμώνει τους μύες του κορμού -Προσφέρει ευλυγισία και ισορροπία άρα προλαμβάνει πτώσεις και πιθανούς άσχημους τραυματισμούς που συνήθως συμβαίνουν στους ηλικιωμένους -Αυξάνει το εύρος της κίνησης -Βοηθά στην επαναφορά της κίνησης μετά από επεμβάσεις -Βελτιώνει τη στάση του σώματος -Βελτιώνει την διάθεση -Προσφέρει ψυχική ικανοποίηση και διαύγεια. Αν είστε πάνω από 60 και ενδιαφέρεστε να ξεκινήσετε pilates τότε αναζητήστε γυμναστήρια ή studios στα οποία υπάρχουν μικρά groups αποκλειστικά με ηλικιωμένους ασκούμενους.  Εναλλακτικά θα μπορούσατε να κάνετε ιδιαίτερα μαθήματα. Πάντως, να έχετε υπόψιν σας πως και στις δύο περιπτώσεις υπάρχει μεγάλη πιθανότητα να σας ζητηθεί να κάνετε πρώτα ορισμένες ιατρικές εξετάσεις ώστε να διαπιστωθεί αν όντως μπορείτε να ξεκινήσετε ένα νέο πρόγραμμα γυμναστικής.
