Είτε για να βελτιώσουμε τη φυσική μας κατάσταση, είτε για να χάσουμε κάποια περιττά κιλά και να μειώσουμε το βάρος μας. Σύμφωνα ωστόσο με νέα έρευνα ενός επιστημονικού κέντρου που μελετά το βάρος, τη διατροφή και γενικότερα τον τρόπο ζωής, στο πανεπιστήμιο Drexel, στη Φιλαδέλφεια των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, η άσκηση μπορεί να μας βοηθήσει να τρώμε λιγότερο! Η μελέτη, που δημοσιεύτηκε στο περιοδικό Health Psychology, έδειξε πως οι υπέρβαροι συμμετέχοντες που τους ζητήθηκε να ακολουθήσουν ένα πρόγραμμα διατροφής χωρίς να κάνουν καθόλου γυμναστική, είχαν 12% πιθανότητες να… μην αντισταθούν και τελικά να φάνε περισσότερο από όσο πρέπει. Αντίθετα, οι συμμετέχοντες στην έρευνα οι οποίοι έκαναν μία ώρα γυμναστική, χωρίς να ακολουθούν κάποιο πρόγραμμα διατροφής, είχαν 5% πιθανότητες να καταναλώσουν περισσότερες θερμίδες. Μάλιστα, για κάθε δέκα λεπτά επιπλέον άσκησης, οι πιθανότητες για υπερβολική κατανάλωση φαγητού μειώνονταν κατά 1%. Ένα ακόμη ενδιαφέρον στοιχείο της μελέτης είναι πως η ήπια μορφή άσκησης είναι πιο αποτελεσματική στη μείωση της κατανάλωσης φαγητού, σε σχέση με τα πιο απαιτητικά προγράμματα εκγύμνασης. Η έρευνα του πανεπιστημίου Drexel αναφέρει πως η άσκηση μπορεί να βοηθήσει τους ανθρώπους να προσαρμοστούν καλύτερα σε μια διατροφή με λιγότερες θερμίδες. Ίσως αυτό να συμβαίνει γιατί με τη γυμναστική ρυθμίζεται καλύτερα η όρεξη και γενικότερα βελτιώνεται η διατροφική συμπεριφορά.
