Coronavirus: More than 100 ongoing vaccination programs – 8 in clinical trial

[/fusion_title][fusion_text] According to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, there are about a hundred vaccine programs against Covid-19 worldwide, ten of which are in the stage of clinical trial. According to the British School of Medicine, there are about 120 vaccination programs against the disease caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus, 110 of which are in preclinical stage of development. Eight programs have reached Phase I of clinical trials on humans. Among them, a Chinese program by the pharmaceutical behemoth CanSino , (listed on the Hong Kong Stock Market) is at an advanced stage, with clinical trials of Phase I and II. The primary goal in Phase I trials is to test the safety and then, to a lesser extent, the effectiveness of the vaccine. Phase II and III tests are performed on a larger scale and aim to evaluate its preparation effectiveness , before obtaining approval for its release from the health authorities. Another three Chinese vaccine programs are in Phase I of the trials: one is a part of Sinovac, a pharmaceutical company (listed on Nasdaq) and the other two belong to the Shenzhen Medical Institute, according to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. A British one from the University of Oxford and a German one from the BioNTech biotechnology laboratory are included among the programs . Both are in Phase I of the tests. In the United States, two vaccine programs are being implemented in Phase I of the trials: one belongs to Biotechnology Moderna and is being developed in collaboration with the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the other is being developed by Biotechnology Inovio Pharmaceuticals. The key against the Covid-19 pandemic is the development of effective and safe vaccines. Since there is still no treatment for the severe forms of the disease, only large-scale vaccination will stop the infection chain of the virus. Nevertheless ,the relative slowness of the process, the large-scale production and the implementation of a massive vaccination campaign are the major issues in the vaccine development process. The World Health Organization and major pharmaceutical laboratories actually  confirm that , in order to develop a vaccine, a minimum of 12 to 18 months is required. However, some scientists, such as Sarah Gilbert, a British vaccine specialist, professor at Oxford University and collaborator with Vaccitech company of the same university, as well as Frédéric Tangy, a vaccine specialist at the Pasteur Institute (which is working on three different vaccine programs) claim that there is likely to be a vaccine by the end of 2020.
